Fischer Panda Generator AGT4000
has been stored in our container since it was re-built by Fisher Pander - new engine and alternator hoses and belts etc. It is an AGT 4000 which is about £1500 more expensive than the panda 4000. The reason for this is that it has extra electric circuitry to enable it to produce 280 amps at 12volts (it does not output 240volts)
Why is the Fischer Panda Generator AGT4000 a better choice for a cruising boat? a couple of years ago i sailed from La to Hawaii the trip was a very slow trip and to keep batteries charged required 5 hours a day battery charging. We carried 6 jerry cans of extra fuel. But by the time we reached Alawa harbour we were down to our last ten gallons onboard.
Running our main 85 hp engine 5 hours a day for 20 days was a very expensive uneconomic way to keep the batteries charged. Excessive noise and vibration, risk of engine breakdown through mechanical failure and possible glazing of the bores or even fire. Plus the cost of a service once we arrived.
We also had a very limited motoring range, and a couple more days we would have been really in trouble.
A well sized 12volt generator producing high amps would have been ideal and this is what I would have in my next yacht. The Fischer Panda Generator AGT4000 has a 5.9hp engine coupled to an alternator which produces 280 amps at 12volts. Run a small inverter for tv’s microwaves vacuum cleaners kettles etc. and don’t need to run the main engine which will have the fuel available when you need it.
Our Fischer Panda Generator AGT4000 has been factory rebuilt and has not been used since but still in packing crate recommended retail
